Mid-Year Book Freak Out Tag (2017 Edition)

Hey y'all!

Ari and Britt here!! Since we're at the halfway point  for 2017, we decided to do the Mid-Year Book Freak Out Tag to have a look at a few of the books we've read this year.  We've read some good books, some bad books, some books that have left us both SHOOK . If you've read any of the following books, definitely let us know your thoughts in the comments.

BEST BOOK WE'VE READ SO FAR IN 2017

ARI'S PICK:

I'm pretty sure Grip may be Britt's pick as well, but we buddy-read this new release together and we both fell in love with Kennedy Ryan's writing and her characters. We're both ecstatic that there is going to be a sequel and I'm hoping for babies!! 

BRITT'S PICK:

Ok first of all, if you haven't read Grip then you need to get on the winning team ASAP, because let me tell you something: Grip is not just any man, he is THE man so don't sleep on him.

(unless you're sleeping on...nevermind). And on another note don't sleep on Kennedy Ryan either because sis can write her ass off!! Grip has stayed with me since I read it months ago and I will never stop talking about it, and since me and Ari both love it so much we have decided to share him because there is plenty to go around. I needed the sequel yesterday!!

BEST SEQUEL WE'VE READ SO FAR IN 2017

ARI'S PICK:

Stay is the second book in the WAGs series and I completely adored it!! Elle Kennedy and Sarina Bowen can do no wrong and this book was so freakin' cute with Erikkson's twins. I'm hoping that there will be more books added to this series, even if it's not anytime soon, I'm willing to wait for it! 

BRITT'S PICK:

Man I still get the feels thinking about this book and the first one, and honestly I still don't think I've recovered from either one of them. Seriously, if ya'll haven't read an Emma Scott book then please do!! And have all the tissues with you, because she knows how to make you cry!!

NEW RELEASE YOU HAVEN'T READ YET, BUT WANT TO

ARI'S PICK:

I actually don't have one...oops! I've been pretty up to date when it comes to new releases this year since I've been keeping track of which books I want to read for the month. Plus, I can't wait to read anticipated releases so I usually pick them up the day they are released.

BRITT'S PICK: 

Lmao pretty much most of my tbr!! There are so many past new releases I've been wanting to read but haven't had the chance to yet, let's hope I get to some of them very soon!!

MOST ANTICIPATED RELEASE FOR THE SECOND HALF OF THE YEAR

ARI'S PICK:

I CAN'T WAIT FOR MORE ROYALS AND MORE EASTON! I AM SCREAMING!!

BRITT'S PICK: 

Ok so I'm kind of a bad reader because I don't have an answer for this. I feel like there are a few books I have in the back of my head but not just any one I'm anticipating over the other, if that makes sense.

BIGGEST DISAPPOINTMENT

ARI'S PICK:

*CRIES* Damaged Like Us was probably one of my most anticipated reads for 2017 and I can't believe I'm saying this, but I didn't like this book at all. I have a lot of issues with it and some of it may be my own fault because I went into this expecting it to be like the Addicted/Calloway Sisters series and it wasn't. I'm still mad about that ending. 

BRITT'S PICK: 

Lmao I have two for this but I'm lowkey scared to mention them for fear of getting jumped so my lips are sealed, although I'm sure Ari can take a good guess of them hahahahahahahahahahahah!!

BIGGEST SURPRISE

ARI'S PICK:

I read Pucked and hated it and DNF-ed Shacking Up so I had low expectations for Pucked Off, but OMFG I LOVED THIS BOOK! It was absolute perfection and it's why I'm going to try a few of Helena's other books to see if any are as good as Pucked Off.

BRITT'S PICK:

Before reading this I had only read one other Tarryn Fisher book and I wasn't too impressed by it. But after buddy reading with my girls I was HOOKED!! I honestly didn't think I was going to love this one as much as I did, but I'm so glad it was a hit!!

FAVORITE NEW AUTHOR (DEBUT OR NEW TO YOU)

ARI'S PICK:

Favorite new-to-me author has to be J.A. Huss. I devoured her Turning series and I need to binge-read the rest of her books. I love her writing so much and her characters are so complex, you can never guess what they're about to do next. I only recommend her books to my dark erotica readers though.

BRITT'S PICK:

I feel like I can't just pick one author so I'm going to cheat and say Kennedy Ryan, Emma Scott and Ibi Zoboi!! The first two I had been wanting to read for the longest and after finally getting to do so this year I was not disappointed!! As for Ibi her debut American Street came out this year and I was so surprised by how much I enjoyed her writing!!

NEWEST FICTIONAL CRUSH

ARI'S PICK:

Me @ Andrew: MARRY MEEE!! Lol, but I seriously love this guy so much. He's the total package: nerdy, sweet, caring and passionate and you can't help but love him. 

BRITT'S PICK:

 

Going to cheat again and pick more than one!! Of course I have to go with my fictional husband Grip, I love my boo!! But Jordan Johnson is my second husband (of many), so I have to mention him too!! 

NEWEST FAVORITE CHARACTER

ARI'S PICK:

So I'm drawing a blank with this pick because I really can't think of a new favorite character right now, haha.

BRITT'S PICK:

Fig man...this woman had me ALL the way shook!! Her character was so out of this world crazy and I will NEVER forget her!! I was so immersed in her head that I found myself rooting for her sometimes lol. I just...yeah man Fig lmao.

BOOK THAT MADE YOU CRY

ARI'S PICK:

I haven't read many books that made me cry this year, but I recently read Tarryn Fisher's latest release, Atheists Who Knee and Pray AND OMG THE TEARS!! I can't believe Tarryn Fisher wrote a book that made me cry. I was totally not expecting that but this book was so good, y'all need to go and read it!

BRITT'S PICK:

I'm still not emotionally ready to talk about this beautiful story so just go read it for yourselves so we can virtually cry on each others shoulders.

BOOK THAT MADE YOU HAPPY

ARI'S PICK:

MY GIRL POPPY GOT THE HAPPILY-EVER-AFTER SHE'S BEEN WAITING SO LONG FOR!! Salvaged was such a beautiful book about new beginnings and finding hope and I'm so sad that one of my favorite series has come to an end. 

BRITT'S PICK:

To be honest I can't pick just one book for this, I feel like pretty much all of my reads this year have been really good (besides like two or three). I feel like I've read so many new to me authors that have become my faves, and all of their books have put the biggest smile on my face for differing reasons.

MOST BEAUTIFUL BOOK YOU'VE BOUGHT SO FAR THIS YEAR (OR RECEIVED)

ARI'S PICK:

I really love the cover for The Red and it's the main reason why I decided to read this book. It literally looks like an old painting which is ironic because of all the sex scenes in this book are inspired by famous paintings in history.

BRITT'S PICK:

I LOVE the cover for Bad Mommy!! There's something about it that just really captured my eye from the moment it was shared, and after reading the story I definitely feel like it matches the vibe of the book. The muted colors, how the woman is posed, the background. I just love it all!!

WHAT BOOKS DO YOU NEED TO READ BY THE END OF THE YEAR?

ARI'S PICK: 

I really just want to clean up my TBR this year and read a bunch of backlist series from my favorite authors. I'm hoping to get to these series before the year is over: Love Me with Lies, Fading, and The Edge of Never.

BRITT'S PICK:

*looks at never ending mountain tbr and realizes I have way too many to list*
