Synopsis via Goodreads: A groomsman and his last-minute guest are about to discover if a fake date can go the distance in a fun and flirty debut novel.

Agreeing to go to a wedding with a guy she gets stuck with in an elevator is something Alexa Monroe wouldn't normally do. But there's something about Drew Nichols that's too hard to resist.

On the eve of his ex's wedding festivities, Drew is minus a plus one. Until a power outage strands him with the perfect candidate for a fake girlfriend...

After Alexa and Drew have more fun than they ever thought possible, Drew has to fly back to Los Angeles and his job as a pediatric surgeon, and Alexa heads home to Berkeley, where she's the mayor's chief of staff. Too bad they can't stop thinking about the other...

They're just two high-powered professionals on a collision course toward the long distance dating disaster of the century--or closing the gap between what they think they need and what they truly want...

*I received a copy of this book from the author/publisher in exchange for an honest review.*

When I first read the blurb for The Wedding Date, I wasn't exactly sold. Truth be told, I'm not a fan of the fake dating trope. I just find them very predictable and angsty and I can't deal with angst. Now I know what you're thinking, "All romance books are predictable, Ari. *facepalm*" But fake dating and I don't mix well which is why I stay away. But then, the cover for The Wedding Date was reveal and Y'ALL, I WAS IN LOVE! I'm such a cover whore and I can't say no to a pretty cover so I decided to give in and hoped that I wasn't going to regret this decision later.

The Wedding Date starts off with our main characters, Alexa Monroe and Drew Nichols, being stuck in an elevator. The two strike up a conversation and Alexa finds out that Drew is in San Francisco because he's attending his ex-girlfriend's wedding. He is also panicking because he doesn't have a date, which leads him to asking Alexa if she would take pity on him and be his date for the weekend. She agrees and the pair hit it off during the wedding. But when the clock strikes twelve and the wedding comes to an end, will these two be ready to go their separate ways?

Never have I ever been so happy to be wrong in my life. I never thought I'd see the day when I would rave about a fake dating romance book, but ladies and gents, that day is today. Guillory won me over from the first chapter. One of the biggest reasons why I enjoyed this book so much was because of how our character's careers played such an important role in the development of the romance. Alexa is the Mayor's Chief of Staff and Drew is a Doctor. They are both career-driven individuals who love what they do and helping people. I enjoyed seeing Alexa and Drew discuss their jobs with one another and how they both took an interest in what the other one does. They even offered one another advice when one was stuck on an issue. It's such a refreshing read because rarely do I ever read a romance where careers are a big part of who BOTH characters are. I definitely feel like this needs to become more of a trend in modern romance.

I admire Alexa so much. She's the type of person who fights for the little people and gives it her all. She's down-to-earth, sassy and is only ever her true self. She's pretty much the ideal woman I strive to be. Also, we both weaknesses for anything sweet. I wasn't quite sure what to make of Drew when we first met him. He's a bit of a hot-ass mess and it took some time for him to grow on me. He can be a little stubborn at times and guarded which was why I wanted to slap him at the beginning. But then I saw how caring he was when he treating his tiny human patients and I couldn't help but fall for the guy.

The development of the romance was my second favorite about this book. This is an interracial relationship as Alexa is black and Drew is white. There were numerous times throughout this story where race is brought up and Alexa voices her thoughts rightfully so and I liked how Guillory didn't shy away from these types of conversations. The romance itself is very sweet. Alexa and Drew both have issues they need to work through in order for them to take that next step and it takes them a while but they do eventually find their way.

The Wedding Date was a delightful and heart-warming debut novel that gave me all the feels and I'm so glad I decided to take a chance on it. I honestly can't recommend this book enough, it's a definite MUST READ SO DON'T SLEEP ON IT! I can't wait for The Proposal so we can find out more about Carlos. If Guillory's sophomore novel is anything like her debut, then I'm sure to love it!
