DISASTERS IN DATING by DANIELLE ALLEN

“When did dating become so complicated?”
I read Work Song by Danielle Allen earlier this year after Britt recommended it to me and I completely adored it! Seriously, if you love office romances then you need to add that book to your TBR. So when I saw the cover reveal for Allen's new book, I eagerly awaited its release day because I knew I had to have it. I didn't even read the synopsis, but based on the title alone, I knew there had to be dating shenanigans and I was so here for them.

Desiree Johnson once had it all: a successful career, great friends, and a devoted partner who she was getting ready to tie the knot with. That is until she found out the her partner was nothing but a lying cheat who left her heart in shambles. Now a year and half later, Desiree is ready to get back out in the dating scene and try her luck at love once again. But that's easier said that done...

To all my single ladies who are working the dating scene, this book is for you! Disasters in Dating had me cackling right from the first chapter and I blame that on Desiree and her friends. I freakin' love the friendship in this book. Carmen, Dyani, Nichelle, and Anika are so supportive of Desiree getting back out there and they give her dating advice, although some are better than others. Carmen is my favorite though. She literally has no filter and her personality is so big. I hope we get more of her insights to dating in the sequel.

Desiree is a badass, independent woman and she's not taking no BS that these potential love interest throw at her. I definitely got a kick out of watching her go one some of these disasters dates because some of these dudes literally had no shame. Desiree struggles throughout this book because she wants to put herself out there, but she also doesn't want to risk getting hurt again. While we meet a number of potential love interests throughout this book, I do have my favorite who I want Desiree to end up with. I won't say who because it's a spoiler, but the guy is literally a dream and if Desiree doesn't want him can I at least have him? This books does end with one hell of a major cliffhanger. Like my jaw was on the floor because I never saw it coming. Luckily the sequel releases soon and I can finally see if my ship sinks or ends up sailing into the horizon.
TRUST by KYLIE SCOTT

He’s the only one who gets me. Who knows what it was like, going through what happened that night … And he’s the only one I know for sure would risk himself to keep me safe.
Despite the fact that many of my blogger friends rave about Kylie Scott's New Adult romances, I never felt the urge to actually check out her books. Trust wasn't even on my radar, but then I saw the book trailer and it left me completely SHOOK! I needed to know what the hell was going to happen next and that's basically what lead to me reading my first Kylie Scott book.

One eventful night, two teenagers find themselves held at gunpoint at a local convenience store and their lives are forever changed. Edie Millen and John Cole are the only ones who understand what went down in that down that night and the two end up forming a bond. But when their friendship slowly starts to turn into something more, these two will find that if they want this work they are going to need to trust each other first.

Trust started off with a bang and had me hooked instantly. I was literally sitting with my eReader glued to my hand as I hoped that both Edie and John both made it out alive without a scratch. While the start of this book had great momentum, I felt like it didn't last too long and found myself a little bored throughout some of the middle parts of this book. I can't quite put my finger on it, but the writing was just a little dry. I also expected Trust to be a little bit on the emotional side considering the traumatic event both Edie and John went through and I just didn't get that from this book.

I have a love/hate relationship with Edie's character. I loved her boldness and the fact that she's not afraid to say what's on her mind. She's always been picked on because of her weight, but she doesn't let the bullies hold her back. The thing I didn't like about Edie though was that she was just as judgmental as the students who bullied her. Two wrongs don't make a right?? As for John, I felt like this book would've been better if his POV was included because then we would be able to know how he felt about things after that night. He is sweet at times, but he also doesn't say much and I felt like I couldn't connect with him. I also have a love/hate relationship with the romance. I think I have a love/hate relationship with basically this whole book, haha. I do like the ending though and thought that it finished out strong. My first book by Kylie Scott was an okay read and I'm glad I gave this book a chance.
BAD PENNY by STACI HART

“You break hearts so yours doesn't get broken. Maybe someday you'll meet somebody who changes your mind.”
After the last two books I read by Staci Hart ended up being total disasters, I had sworn myself off of reading anymore of her books. I felt like her writing and characters weren't for me and it was time to move on. But a few blogger friends convinced me to give her one last shot and told me that I would really enjoy Bad Penny. I crossed my fingers and hoped that they were right because I really didn't want to end up throwing my eReader again while reading another Staci Hart book.

Penny knows what heartache feels like and vows to never have to experience that pain again. She puts up barriers and creates a set of rules to keep her heart safe, but nothing could prepare her for when Bodie walked into her life...again. She tries to play the same game with the same rules and soon realizes that only person she's got fooled is herself.

I guess fourth times a charm because I ended up enjoying Bad Penny more than I had expected. Bad Penny has one of the best opening liners I have ever read and I will never look at a dude's lip color the same way again. I like the writing a lot better in this book and there isn't an overabundance of similes and metaphors, which was what annoyed me with her previous books.

This book is kind of, sort of  a second-chance romance as Penny and Bodie both knew each other from high school. Bodie always had a crush on Penny and now he's got his shot at dating his dream girl. Did I mention that Bodie is a hot nerd?! Can you say book boyfriend because hot nerds are my faves and I honestly couldn't get enough of Bodie. He was so sweet and patient with Penny, gaaahhh I want!! I also loved Penny and her personality, although it would do her some good to not be so in her head all the time. The romance had me dying because I just wanted these two to make things official and be happy!! I'm really happy I decided to give in an give Hart one last chance or else I would've missed out on this adorably cute romance. I guess I won't be writing Staci Hart off my TBR just yet.
